Arabis ferdinandi-coburgii 'Variegata' (Ferdinand's Wall Cress): This is a very neat and tidy groundcover that just happens to have small white flowers on short stems in spring.  The foliage is dark green edged in clean white. Arabis ferdinandi-coburgii 'Variegata' (Ferdinand's Wall Cress)

Asarum splendens 'Chinese Wild Ginger'

Astilbe -Ostrich PlumeAstilbe -Ostrich Plume

Also known as False Spirea.  A long lived perennial that prefers division every three years, or when the center starts to look woody. It can be grown in full shade but will not bloom as prolifically. Will not tolerate dry soil. Deep rose, almost red in color.

Astilbe, 'Ostrich Plume'

Astilbe 'Pumila'Astilbe 'Pumila'

I like this short groundcover type Astilbe in front of Hostas and Impatiens. It blooms later than taller types, late summer/early fall, which helps extend the color in part shade. Lilac/pink in color and it tolerates dryness better than other varieties, but does best in moist soil.

Astilbe, 'Pumila'

Astilbe 'Superba'Astilbe 'Superba'

Chinese Astilbes tolerate dry soil better than other types, but prefer moist rich soil. It's best to divide every three years, early spring or early fall. Deep rosie color.

Black-eyed Susan Vine  Easy to start from seed and very fast to grow and bloom. 'Blushing Susie' is a pretty variety, too, with shades of pink and rose colored blooms.

Blackberry LilyBlackberry Lily

Commonly called a lily, the leaves are similar to iris and they are actually in the iris family.

Fanfare is a drought tolerant perennial known for a huge color display in early summer through fall.   The colors range from deep yellow to burgundies.   This is a salt tolerant plant for sunny locations.   It grows 18-24' tall with a 18" spread.   It is cold hardy to zone 3.   If prefers well drained soil. Blanket flower "Fanfare"

Bleeding Heart
I started this plant from seed. It is a splendid tropical plant indoors, in containers, or a warm shady garden. Its blooms are a vivid pink and purple! Outdoors, Brazilian Fireworks will bloom all summer, and has a beautiful foliage variegation in deep shade. In containers and indoors, it remains neat and symmetrical, 8 to 10 inches high and a bit less wide. I have mine indoors now! I just LOVE it![img_assist|nid=1083|title=Brazilian Fireworks|desc=|link=popup|align=left|width=200|height=150] Brazilian Fireworks Maracas

Asclepias tuberosa pods take about 2 1/2 months to mature. Like most seed pods, they are brown when mature, and split open down one side to release the seeds which are attached to a down-like material. They hang out of the split, and are pulled out and scattered by wind, or by sticking to animal fur if they brush against them. It took the seeds a week to completely empty the pod. This is a picture of the seeds that were attached to the down. Butterfly weed
The seedpod of the orange butterfly weed is shown ripened and split. Some of the seed fibers can be seen at the site of the split. Butterfly Weed
Calibrachoa, Million Bells, Mini Petunia [img_assist|nid=826|title=|desc=|link=popup|align=right|width=200|height=194] Solanaceae family Million Bells are a fabulous flowering annual or tropical/tender perennial. [img_assist|nid=828|title=|desc=|link=popup|align=left|width=200|height=150]2007 was my first experience with this plant - LOVED it! Flowered continiously all summer. Available in a variety of colors, and as plants or seed. This is a particularly lovely plant in hanging baskets and containers. No deadheading needed, hummingbirds love it, as fragrant as regular petunias. Calibrachoa, Million Bells, Mini Petunia

Pink Calla Lily

Pink Calla Lily

This Calla Lily, Zantedeschia, can be planted in full sun to partial shade. This lily is also excellent to grow in containers. Hardy in zones 8-11

Campanula 'Cherry Bells'Campanula 'Cherry Bells'

Also known as 'Spotted Bellflower', this one is often not the best behaved, becoming invasive if left to wander.  Blooms last longer and look better if grown in part shade.  Propagate by division as it usually does not come true from seed.

Campanula, 'Cherry Bells'

Candytuft is a mid-spring bloomer that some have described as resembling a snowbank.  Blooms are profuse and completely cover the mounding plants.  Leaves are narrow, almost needle like, about an inch long and are evergreen.  Though the plants become a bit ragged as winter progresses, this is made up for by the long lasting bloom period.
