Printer-friendly versionThe Pearly Crescentspot is a very small butterfly, measuring 1-1/2".  They are one of the most common meadow butterflies. This one is sitting on the blooms of Autumn Joy Sedum.  Aster foliage is their choice for where to lay their eggs, which the young caterpillars begin to eat as soon as they hatch.
